DLC Clipper Blades: Benefits, Cleaning and Maintenance
Compartir
DLC stands for diamond-like carbon, a hard carbon-based coating used on some professional clipper and trimmer blades. Depending on the blade design and coating process, DLC can help with wear resistance and friction management. It does not make a blade maintenance-free.
DLC versus standard steel blades
Steel quality, tooth geometry, blade alignment and coating all influence cutting feel. A coated blade may offer durability advantages, but a poorly adjusted DLC blade can still pull hair or irritate skin. Evaluate the entire blade assembly rather than choosing on coating alone.
Daily maintenance routine
- Switch off the tool and remove loose hair with a suitable cleaning brush.
- Clean and disinfect according to the tool and disinfectant manufacturer's instructions.
- Allow the blade to dry as directed.
- Apply clipper oil only at the manufacturer's recommended points and amount.
- Wipe away excess oil and store the tool in a clean, dry location.
When to replace a blade
Look for persistent pulling despite cleaning and oiling, chipped teeth, corrosion, uneven cutting or abnormal noise. Check alignment before replacing a serviceable blade. Always confirm the exact compatible model: similar-looking blades are not necessarily interchangeable.
FAQ
Do DLC blades stay cool forever?
No. All powered cutting systems can heat up during operation. Take breaks and check blade temperature.
Can I install any DLC blade on any clipper?
No. Mounting geometry, moving blade travel and model compatibility must match.
